Note Names
Bass clef is also known as the "F" clef. This is because two dots are on the right side of the bass clef. The line in the very center between these two dots is F on the bass clef. Notes are in alphabetical order from "A" to "G" going on to the next letter every time the note rises once.
Treble clef is known as the "G" clef. This is because of the G shape in the part of the treble clef on the staf itself. The line that this cirlces is where the note G is. Notes are in alphabetical order from "A" to "G" going on to the next letter every time the note rises once.
At some point or another you may hear someone refer to playing "down into bass clef" or "up into treble clef." This is because the clefs do have the ability to coexist. Treble clef is above bass clef, and between the two there is a single ledger line. On this ledger line lies the note C for both clefs. This is the middle C you hear referred to when people talk about piano music.
